The higher the quality, the more coils are used, with fewer coils, each coil must be thicker to take the strain. Thicker coils feel harder, while thinner coils feel softer. A small number of thick coils produces a lumpy feel, while a higher quality mattress with many thinner coils produces a more even feel.
